Husband, Father, Citizen, Professional.

I'm a Detroiter who happens to enjoy writing, national parks, orange juice, the performing arts, and fanciful socks. More than anything though, I aspire to be a good husband, father, and citizen.

When I learned I was going to be a father, I began to reflect deeply about how I could get our son, and any other children we are blessed to have, to choose to live a life pursuing goodness instead of power.

To me that’s the primary objective of being a parent - raising my kids to be good people. Everything else is gravy.

This project is a series of letters to my son (and our future children). I’m calling it “Choosing Goodness” because that’s exactly what I am trying to understand by writing these letters. I figure the best way to teach our son to choose goodness is to live it out myself.

Each letter / essay is below. I’m committed to publishing at least one per month. If you have ideas, comments, or wisdom to share I’d love to hear it.
