Kindness cuts through
Kindness cuts through the noise.
I’m a bit surprised to be grieving the loss of a colleague I’ve just met. I maybe talked to her 5-6 times. It’s not the same grief as when losing a close friend, but it’s grieving nonetheless.
But from moment one, I knew she was kind. And that simple act, of genuine kindness shown by a person with no performance, no faking it, creates a bond.
That simple bond of genuine kindness, given and received, is hard to forget. It is something you remember despite having a busy life, and you hear it even amidst the yelling that never stops from people who make more money the louder they are.
I think that’s the selfish reason why I want to be a good person. Being a good person creates trust and that trust creates connection with others.
But as my ambition for applause wanes, I think I know why. What’s a life without friendship, without bonds? Is it worth it to satisfy ambitions if you are lonely?
That’s why kindness cuts through. When someone is kind to you, it means you are not fully alone.
